Computer Security - Redefined

A computer manager has stated on many occasions that “Having passwords on business computers and laptops are SILLY and not truly required in the business environment that he works in. Should a hacker want access to a computer or server, they will gain access anyway, if they so desire.” You lock your office, the alarm system is set, no unauthorized person will have access to your office computer. Who is gonna steal your computer from your office? No need for routers and/or firewalls. No need to lock your computer screen on office computers and servers. No need to monitor your LAN with additional software. But do keep OS, spyware, and antiviral software up-to-date. WOW!!

Until it hapens to them

A lot of businesses don't care about security unless a breach happens first. Physical security is often overlooked until it becomes a problem. Physical security is often the most inconvenient to users.

I've heard that there's now a legal requirement to notify all persons having data such as their names, addresses, etc. in your databases, etc. of any data theft from your computer system. One recent seminar about security suggested limiting the amount of data collected about persons or storing it on hardcopies to limit legal liability. If the hackers weren't bad enough it is the lawyers who are the real sharks.
