Console apps:
vi
dmesg
apt
ssh
ifconfig
history
find
grep
top
nmap
kismet
less
apropos
mencoder
ffmpeg
man
ufw
nano
mount
Of course all these apps can be run on the console / terminal and I often start up programs in the terminal for troubleshooting purposes as the terminal provides much more information and allows switches for debugging a process.
