Wireless

How simple could installing this problematic firmware? Very. I just learned of this nice feature of Ubuntu Feisty.

Just type "sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter" into your terminal, enter your password (requires root permissions), accept the install with a Y or press enter... Then stop/start your wireless card with your hardware switch (sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart) or reboot.

You should be nice and happy with your evil broadcom-based wireless card.

debian broadcom fix

It would be nice if there was a .deb package for this. Just a quick look with aptitude for etch didn't find any. I've just been using an older compaq pcmcia card as a workaround.

Ubuntu reops needed...

I would venture to guess you need the Ubuntu repos to enable use of their bcm fwcutter stuff.... But yeah, it should be made into a standard Debian .deb for all to use. From what I have seen Kernel developers are working to add support too. Time will tell.

The project can be found at http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/

It installs these files (in the current version):

/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/bcm43xx-fwcutter
/usr/share
/usr/share/bcm43xx-fwcutter
/usr/share/bcm43xx-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/bcm43xx-fwcutter
/usr/share/doc/bcm43xx-fwcutter/README.gz
/usr/share/doc/bcm43xx-fwcutter/README.Debian
/usr/share/doc/bcm43xx-fwcutter/copyright
/usr/share/doc/bcm43xx-fwcutter/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/man
/usr/share/man/man1
/usr/share/man/man1/bcm43xx-fwcutter.1.gz

Thanks big bro,

I found sid has the bcm43xx-fwcutter as a package so I was lazy and just upgraded from etch. A decent mirror:
