The latest and greatest Ubuntu Hardy Heron will be released April 24, 2008. Developers have been busting their butts to get this release out the door on time. This version is a Long Term Support release with 3 years updates on the Desktop and 5 years on the server. Maybe we could Celebrate this release within the next month or so with a Release Party!!

Older news on Ubuntu - July 18, 2007

The latest Ubuntu still rocks! I have Beryl and the new Compiz Fusion installed on my laptop and one desktop. Compiz Fusion adds some really great effects that just blow away any competition for gui'ness.
Ubuntu Gutsy is the upcoming release (October 2007). Expect great things since Compiz will be the default should the system have the right video hardware (Intel, Nvidia or ATI).
Later...

There is now a vendor System76 who is selling and supporting Ubuntu Laptop, Desktop, Mini and Server systems preinstalled with Ubuntu Linux (dapper drake). Check them out first if you want to buy a system ready to go out of the box!!
06/01/2006 Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS (Long-Term Support)
Versions that are now available:
Ubuntu-desktop runs Gnome and works very well from my experiences during the development cycle of Dapper. I've been using it for 2 months, even with all the updates/upgrades....
Kubuntu-desktop gives you KDE. I have run this version on an iMac and an i386-based PC. You can have as many KDE applications installed on any of these versions of Ubuntu.
Xubuntu-desktop gives you the light-weight XFCE. This too I have as an option on my Ubuntu system.
Ubuntu Server version is just what it says it is... Terminal-based server edition that is just plain cool!
All of these new products are supported for the unprecedented 3 years. And 5 years on the server version!
Variants abound such as the Medibuntu (linked in the sidebar under 7.04).
Go to www.ubuntu.com to see what the hoopla is about and download via BitTorrent (if you can) to help ease the load on the servers.... =D
